April 20, 2020 - Day 23 of Flexible Learning

Hope everyone enjoyed the weekend! Yesterday was beautiful and I defintiely took the opportunity to get outside. Did you? What did you do?

Please note it is important to keep in mind your child's IEP goals. These skills may be addressed through the provided activities as well as the very natural everyday interactions such as daily routines and play. Play with your child as play is a child's work. All areas of development - cognitive, social/emotional, motor, and speech/language skills are achieved through everyday activities including play.

These are all suggestions for you to have in one location; if you find, that you need additional resources for your child. Our key word is Flexible and that is very important when working with young children. If you are in need of other resources, please just contact me. I will continue to send a morning email each school day with links to this page, my video, along with Ms. Cosgrove's morning message. It is important to email me your child's attendance, by 10am, each day so I may record it.

Please continue to email me your pictures. I love seeing your faces!

Theme: Earth Day

Letter of the Week: Xx

Suggested Activities

Read Aloud - Earth Day, Every Day

Earth Craft

Trace a large circle or use a paper plate. Have your child cut out circle. Color, paint, or add torn pieces of paper to represent our earth. Add facial features of eyes, nose, and mouth. Cut 4 strips of paper. Cut 2 longer for the legs. Accordion fold the strips of paper and glue or tape to the back of the earth.

Stem Challenge -Build a Recycling Plant

Earth Day STEM Challenges and fun props like cardboard, a small bucket of crumpled up paper, cans, cups, lids, cardboard, toy trucks will create a recycling center. Encourage your child to talk through the building of the center, sort the recycling items, etc.

Letter Xx Weekly Activities

Letter Xx and alphabet songs

This is a 15 minute complete alphabet movement song - Please Try!

Letter Xx - Mystery Box

Find and place 5-7 items/pictures that begin or end with the letter Xx. Have your child label each item/picture - talk about the item/picture - place items/pictures in box. Have your child recall the items that have been placed into the box. Repeat this activity daily with your child. Some items/pictures will be recalled easily - others may require a clue. Make this into a game with your child. This is an activity that we do during our circle time and is enjoyed by all.

Sensory Writing

Write letter Xx as well as other letters and numbers in shaving cream, rice, sand, or flour. Any substance will work to give your child that sensory input when writing letters.

Music/Movement

Earth Day Balloon Ping Pong

This activity is a great for indoors. The activity is reasonably quiet and safe. Developmentally speaking, ping pong encourages continued refinement of hand eye coordination. The use of paper plates, a couple of jumbo popsicle sticks and the glue or tape are great items to make DIY Ping Pong paddles perfectly sized for a preschooler. Add the balloon and your are ready to play.
