June 23, 2020 - Day 62 of Flexible Learning

These activities promote a variety of developmental skills such as hand and eye coordination, concentration, writing skills, language skills, pre readiness cognitive skills, creativity and imagination and self esteem - a sense of pride and achievement.

The daily suggested activities for your preschooler are listed below. These are all suggestions for you to have in one location; if you find, that you need additional resources for your child. Our key word is Flexible and that is very important when working with young children. If you are in need of other resources, please just contact me. I will continue to send a morning email each school day with links to this page, Ms. Cosgrove's morning message, and the attendance form.

Please continue to email me your pictures. I love seeing your faces and all the fun you are having while we are apart!

Paper Lantern Firework Craft

Take a piece of paper and fold in half. Draw lines from the fold to about an inch from the top of the paper. Evenly space out the lines. Have your child cut on the lines. Make sure they stop before they reach the top of the paper. Once lines are cut, open up the paper. Have your child decorate with stickers, glitter glue, paint, crayons, or markers. Turn paper to create lantern and staple. Add handle to top.

Colored Ice Sensory Play

Filled up a couple of ice cube trays with “plain” water.  Also fill up random containers, then added food coloring (’cause food coloring is almost as fun as glitter).  You may use any colors. Freeze overnight.  The next morning, “Time for ice!”  Take the ice from the freezer and dump it into a container or water table, if you have one.  Then add pitchers of water, some cups, and some funnels. You may also add toys. Point out the cracks in the ice to your child if they do not notice. Have them pour water into the cracks. Ask what will happen? What is happening to the ice when you pour the water on it?  As the ice melted, encourage your child to notice the water turning a different color - depends on the food coloring that you used. Talk about the changes that your child is seeing...
