Welcome to Thankful Thursday! This week we worked on activities related to Earth Day. I am definitely thankful for our beautiful environment and looking forward to when our parks are open so I can really enjoy the beautiful nature.
Please note it is important to keep in mind your child's IEP goals. These skills may be addressed through the provided activities as well as the very natural everyday interactions such as daily routines and play. Play with your child as play is a child's work. All areas of development - cognitive, social/emotional, motor, and speech/language skills are achieved through everyday activities including play.
These are all suggestions for you to have in one location; if you find, that you need additional resources for your child. Our key word is Flexible and that is very important when working with young children. If you are in need of other resources, please just contact me. I will continue to send a morning email each school day with links to this page, my video, along with Ms. Cosgrove's morning message. It is important to email me your child's attendance, no later than 10am, each day so I may record it.
Please continue to email me your pictures. I love seeing your faces!
Theme: Earth Day

Suggested Activities
Read Aloud - Miss Fox's Class Goes Green
Recycled Tree Crafts

The pictures represent two different examples of using recycled materials to create a tree craft. Look around your home to see what materials you may use to create a recycled tree. I am excited to see all of our new trees!
Earth Day Patterns

Have your child make patterns with rocks, green and blue gems. You may use any colored items - legos, blocks, buttons, etc. to work on this skill. Start a pattern and have your child copy or extend it. Your child may make up their own patterns.
Earth Day Pretzel Tree Snack

Use pretzel rods, sticks, and halved grapes arranged on a plate to create a tree. Show your child the picture in order for your child to create the tree snack. Extend the activity by having your child count the pretzels, grapes, point out shapes, sizes, etc. No pretzels or grapes - use whatever you have on hand!
Letter Xx Weekly Activities
Letter Xx and alphabet songs
This is a 15 minute complete alphabet movement song - Please Try!
Letter Xx - Mystery Box
Find and place 5-7 items/pictures that begin with the letter Xx. Have your child label each item/picture - talk about the item/picture - place items/pictures in box. Have your child recall the items that have been placed into the box. Repeat this activity daily with your child. Some items/pictures will be recalled easily - others may require a clue. Make this into a game with your child. This is an activity that we do during our circle time and was enjoyed by all.
Sensory Writing
Write letter Xx as well as other letters and numbers in shaving cream, rice, sand, or flour. Any substance will work to give your child that sensory input when writing letters.
Music/Movement
Recycled Bag Kites

Have you ever seen plastic bag flying around in the wind? That was the inspiration for this activity. Simply tie a string to a plastic bag and send your child running.
