Hope everyone enjoyed the weekend! When is the weather going to get better? At least we had a nice day on Saturday.

Please note it is important to keep in mind your child's IEP goals. These skills may be addressed through the provided activities as well as the very natural everyday interactions such as daily routines and play. Play with your child as play is a child's work. All areas of development - cognitive, social/emotional, motor, and speech/language skills are achieved through everyday activities including play. It is through play that your child learns, grows, and will retain new skills and information.

These are all suggestions for you to have in one location; if you find, that you need additional resources for your child. Our key word is Flexible and that is very important when working with young children. If you are in need of other resources, please just contact me. I will continue to send a morning email each school day with links to this page, my video, along with Ms. Cosgrove's morning message. It is important to email me your child's attendance, no later than 10am, each day so I may record it.

Please continue to email me your pictures. I love seeing your faces!

Frog Crafts

No paper plates - use colored paper. No colored paper - color it with paint, crayons, or markers. Be creative! Begin with the green circle. Cut the paper plate in half. Trace 2 circles on one half of the plate. Cut out. Then trace 2 circles on white paper. Cut out. Trace 2 black smaller black. Cut out. Use a glue stick to glue all the pieces together to form the frog’s eyes. Then, glue eyes to the top of the other half of the paper plate. Cut a long strip of the red paper. Add mouth with marker or crayon. Roll one end of the paper around a pencil and curl up until you reach the other end. Glue to mouth.

Sensory Play - Cloud Dough

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup lotion regular lotion or baby lotion

  • 1 cup cornstarch also called cornflour

  • Food Coloring, (optional)

Add 1/2 cup of lotion to a bowl. Add 1-2 drops of the food coloring and mix. Mix the lotion and food coloring until combined. Add 1 cup of cornstarch and mix until combined. Then take out the dough and place on some wax paper. Knead with your hand. Keep kneading until it forms a dough-like consistency. If it's still too sticky add another tablespoon of cornstarch. Below link provides additional tips on storing cloud dough.

Lily Pad Numbers

Print off the lily pad template, if you have a printer, or draw lily pads. Make 5 and write numbers 1-5, 6-10 on back of lily pads (one number on each lily pad side). May make 10 and then use 1-10 on one side, 11-20 on other side. Add circles to each lily pad to correspond with the number written on the lily pad. Some may have your child trace or write the numbers and nix the corresponding prompt circles. Have your child read the number on each lily pad. Stick the correct number of stickers on each lily pad. For example, if the lily pad has the number 3 on it... stick 3 stickers on it! No stickers - color 3 circles. Mix up lily pads have your child numerical order the lily pads. Have your child point to the correct number, say the number when you point, countless ways to encourage math skills as well as language skills.

Below is the link for the lily pad template, if you have a printer.

Letter Yy Weekly Activities

Letter Yy and alphabet songs

Letter Yy - Mystery Box

Find and place 5-7 items/pictures that begin or end with the letter Yy. Have your child label each item/picture - talk about the item/picture - place items/pictures in box. Have your child recall the items that have been placed into the box. Repeat this activity daily with your child. Some items/pictures will be recalled easily - others may require a clue. Make this into a game with your child. This is an activity that we do during our circle time and is enjoyed by all.

Sensory Writing

Write letter Yy as well as other letters and numbers in shaving cream, rice, sand, or flour. Any substance will work to give your child that sensory input when writing letters.

Letter Yy Scavenger Hunt

Have your child search for items that begin with letter Yy or yellow items. Have your child name/label each item emphasizing the beginning sound of Yy.

Music/Movement

Lily Pad Hop

Use the lily pads from the math activity. Have your child hop from lily pad to lily pad. Call out a number and hop to that number. Become another pond animal and move to a lily pad in that fashion... crawl like a turtle, fly like a dragonfly, slither like a snake, etc. Start moving!
