Have a Terrific Tuesday!
Please note it is important to keep in mind your child's IEP goals. These skills may be addressed through the provided activities as well as the very natural everyday interactions such as daily routines and play. Play with your child as play is a child's work. All areas of development - cognitive, social/emotional, motor, and speech/language skills are achieved through everyday activities including play. It is through play that your child learns, grows, and will retain new skills and information.
These are all suggestions for you to have in one location; if you find, that you need additional resources for your child. Our key word is Flexible and that is very important when working with young children. If you are in need of other resources, please just contact me. I will continue to send a morning email each school day with links to this page, Ms. Cosgrove's morning message, and the attendance form.
Please continue to email me your pictures. I love seeing your faces!

Mrs. McAuliffe's Jefferson Media Site Read Alouds
Y is for Yarn or Yo-Yo Craft

Trace/Cut a large Y shape or write it.
Yarn craft - punch holes and have your child lace around the letter Y or have your child snip yarn pieces to glue onto the letter Y.
Yo-Yo craft - trace several circles. Glue circles to create yo-yo. Add to letter Y.
Pond Life Slime Sensory Activity

Use slime or cloud dough-yesterday's sensory activity- to a tray to create a pond. Add plastic toys - let you child create and add items that would be found in a pond. Vinegar is a great way to clean any of the toys from the slime.
Glue Slime Ingredients
2 (4-ounce) bottles washable school glue, such as Elmer's (see note for variations)
1 to 2 drops liquid food coloring (optional)
1/4 cup glitter (optional)
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 to 3 tablespoons saline solution (i.e., contact lens solution), divided
Color the glue (optional): Pour the glue into a medium bowl. Stir in the food coloring and glitter, if desired. This mixture doesn't need to be homogeneous, as you'll mix it even more after adding the baking soda. Add the baking soda to the glue mixture and stir until smooth.
Pour in 2 tablespoons of the contact lens solution and stir slowly. The mixture should begin to harden, becoming stringy. Continue mixing slowly until a ball of slime forms. Pick up the slime and work between your two hands, until smooth. If the slime is particularly slimy, work in another 1/2 tablespoon of contact lens solution as needed. Store in an airtight container at room temperature.
Letter/Number Kaboom Game

Write letters on a popsicle stick and the word, "Kaboom." Collect as many letters of the alphabet by a set time before picking up a popsicle stick that says Kaboom! The winner has the most letters in their hand before the Kaboom stick is found. This game can easily be used for numbers as well. The game lends to social skills of turn taking and a teachable moment of sportsmanship - losing is difficult for some and a skill that needs to be learned by all.
Letter Yy Weekly Activities
Letter Yy and alphabet songs
Letter Yy - Mystery Box
Find and place 5-7 items/pictures that begin with the letter Yy. Have your child label each item/picture - talk about the item/picture - place items/pictures in box. Have your child recall the items that have been placed into the box. Repeat this activity daily with your child. Some items/pictures will be recalled easily - others may require a clue. Make this into a game with your child. This is an activity that we do during our circle time and was enjoyed by all.
Sensory Writing
Write letter Yy as well as other letters and numbers in shaving cream, rice, sand, or flour. Any substance will work to give your child that sensory input when writing letters.
Letter Yy Scavenger Hunt
Have your child search for items that begin with letter Yy or yellow items. Have your child name/label each item emphasizing the beginning sound of Yy.
Music/Movement
Frog /Lily Pad Toss

Place lily pads or a frog at a distance. Have your child throw soft balls or bean bags - no bean bags, use a pair of socks rolled into a ball at the lily pad/frog target.
