Please note it is important to keep in mind your child's IEP goals. These skills may be addressed through the provided activities as well as the very natural everyday interactions such as daily routines and play. Play with your child as play is a child's work. All areas of development - cognitive, social/emotional, motor, and speech/language skills are achieved through everyday activities including play. It is through play that your child learns, grows, and will retain new skills and information.

These are all suggestions for you to have in one location; if you find, that you need additional resources for your child. Our key word is Flexible and that is very important when working with young children. If you are in need of other resources, please just contact me. I will continue to send a morning email each school day with links to this page, Ms. Cosgrove's morning message, and attendance form.

Please continue to email me your pictures. I love seeing your faces!

Theme: Pond Life

Suggested Activities

Read Aloud - Are You a Snail?

Video - Nature Cat - Ponds are Pond-tastic!

Rocking Snail Craft

Trace 2 circles. Have your child cut out circles. Fold 1 circle in half so it rocks. Glue circle to the folded circle. Trace 2 strips and 2 small circles for horns. Add features such as eyes, mouth, and shell swirl. Below link is a video on how to create the rocking snail.

Post It Numbers or Letters - Multiple Day Activities

Put“dot quantities” all over it. Write the numeral for each “dot quantity” on a post it. Hide the post its. Have your child search for a post it and match it to the "dots" on the paper. Encourage your child to move in various ways while searching for the post its. This same activity can be done with matching letters - uppercase to lowercase letters, shapes, etc.

Letter Yy Weekly Activities

Letter Yy and alphabet songs

Letter Yy - Mystery Box

Find and place 5-7 items/pictures that begin with the letter Yy. Have your child label each item/picture - talk about the item/picture - place items/pictures in box. Have your child recall the items that have been placed into the box. Repeat this activity daily with your child. Some items/pictures will be recalled easily - others may require a clue. Make this into a game with your child. This is an activity that we do during our circle time and was enjoyed by all.

Sensory Writing

Write letter Yy as well as other letters and numbers in shaving cream, rice, sand, or flour. Any substance will work to give your child that sensory input when writing letters.

Letter Yy Scavenger Hunt

Have your child search for items that begin with letter Yy or yellow items. Have your child name/label each item emphasizing the beginning sound of Yy.

Scholastic - My Big World magazine

The students enjoy learning with our Scholastic News as well as the followup activities. Please explore March 2018 issue - Peep, Peep! - the issue, video, and game. The link below will bring you to the Scholastic - My Big World site - Log in as a student with the code cornfox7099

Technology

Explore free websites to reinforce skills for your child. Each child should have an account for ABCmouse and Epic. If you need log in information, please contact me. In addition, through the iPad apps that were sent home you may log into IXL with your child's Roxbury email account and Classlink. Below links are for few additional free websites.

Music/Movement

Walk the Line

Grab the sidewalk chalk and head outside to a large concrete space such as a driveway. Then draw a bunch of different types of lines - a long zig-zag line, a curvy line, a straight line and big swirl. Draw over them twice so that they were really obvious and less likely to get wiped away with shoes stepping on them over and over again. See how your child can stay focused on staying on the lines. Challenge your child by having them jump down the lines, hop on one foot, run, walk sideways, backwards, etc. Pretend that there is water on each side so you don't "fall" in the water. Have your child select or invent other ways to move down the lines. Have a great time moving!
