The daily suggested activities for your preschooler are listed below. These are all suggestions for you to have in one location; if you find, that you need additional resources for your child. Our key word is Flexible and that is very important when working with young children. If you are in need of other resources, please just contact me.

I will continue to send a morning email each school day with links to this page, Ms. Cosgrove's morning message, and the attendance form.

Please continue to email me your pictures. I love seeing your faces and all the fun you are having while we are apart!

Sun Craft

Cut a paper plate in half. Start by painting the paper plate yellow. No paper plate - use yellow paper. Draw and have your child cut little triangles out of orange and yellow paper. Glue the triangles on the back of the paper plate. Great opportunity to pattern the triangles and practicing counting skills! Next comes the rainbow. Cut strips of tissue or construction paper and glue them on the back of the paper plate. Add a fun face!

Sun Catcher Sensory Bag

You will need only a few materials to create this great sensory activity for your child.

  • Hair gel

  • Food coloring

  • Zip seal bags

  • Packaging tape

Fill a zip seal bag with the desired amount of hair gel.  Add several drops of food coloring. If you want to make color mixing sensory bags like shown you will want to add one food coloring color to one side of the bag and another food coloring color to the other side of the bag. Blue and yellow food coloring will combine to make green as your child plays.  Red and yellow will make orange and red and blue will make purple.  Squeeze the air from the bag and seal it.  Once the bag is sealed use packaging tape (or similar) to secure the sensory bag to a window at kids level.  Not only does the tape hold the sensory bag to the window, but it also super seals the bag so there is no leaking. As kids play the coloring will mix into the gel, creating a beautiful sun catcher effect.  The more they play the more beautiful the sensory bags become. After a bit of free play and exploration prompt your child to try a bit of sensory writing.  This can be done with fingers, but to add a bit more fine motor to the fun give your child q-tips.  Say a letter and your child would then draw it in the gel. Add in numbers and shapes, too.

Sunshine Snacks

These simple to create sunshine snacks are just a few examples of a delicious snack. Use any food items that you may have on hand to create your own sunshine! These items could include oranges, carrots, pretzel sticks, the possibilities are endless... Please send a picture of you enjoying a bit of sunshine.

Letter Review Weekly Activities

We have completed our weekly letters. The remaining weeks of the year will focus on reviewing and reinforcing letter recognition as well as initial sounds. The suggested activities are designed to be practiced throughout the week.

Letter Activities and Alphabet Songs

Letter Cups

Grab a set of plastic/paper cups and letter stickers. You may write the letters on the cups with a marker, too. The pictures are examples of various letter activities you may explore with your preschooler. Too many letters at once, work on a few at a time until you feel as if your child has mastered those letters and beginning sound. Select letters of your child's name. If your child has mastered their first name, start working on last name. Extend this activity with numbers. The possibilities are many....

Rainbow Name

Have your child write their name in pencil. You may need to assist your child. Have your child trace each letter using 1 color of the rainbow for each letter. Repeat with a 2nd, 3rd, etc colors.

Sensory Writing/Play dough/Object Letters

Write your name as well as other letters and numbers in shaving cream, rice, sand, or flour. Any substance will work to give your child that sensory input when writing letters.

Use play dough to form letters. You may write a letter on a piece of paper and have your child roll out play dough to cover the letter. Cover the letter with small objects such as buttons, beads, cereal, or macaroni.

Music/Movement

Pool Noodle Hockey

Our class loved Noodle Hockey when we played during phys ed class. This is a fun active game to play outside. The picture shows the noodles cut in half but we played by bending the noodle into a U shape and the children would hold each end with their hands. Either way works! The object of the game is to move a ball across a space with only the noodle to a goal.
