These activities promote a variety of developmental skills such as hand and eye coordination, concentration, writing skills, language skills, pre readiness cognitive skills, creativity and imagination and self esteem - a sense of pride and achievement.

The daily suggested activities for your preschooler are listed below. These are all suggestions for you to have in one location; if you find, that you need additional resources for your child. Our key word is Flexible and that is very important when working with young children. If you are in need of other resources, please just contact me. I will continue to send a morning email each school day with links to this page, Ms. Cosgrove's morning message, and the attendance form.

Please continue to email me your pictures. I love seeing your faces and all the fun you are having while we are apart!

Dinosaur Shape Craft

This craft is one collage in which basic geometric shapes are assembled to create a dinosaur body. Draw and cut out a variety of basic shapes. Have your child do as much of this as possible. Once the shapes are cut out, have your child sort/count the shapes. Once all the shapes are cut, have your child arrange them to create a dinosaur. This craft lends to such creativity with just basic shapes since each child is unique! Some of the children may make dinosaurs that stand with all four feet on the ground, like Stegosaurus, while others will create Tyrannosaurus Rex-like creatures that stand up on their hind legs! Add facial features - eyes, mouth, teeth - always allowing your child to take the lead in their creation. As well as practicing skills such as cutting with scissors and math concepts, it is also a great activity to promote language development, helping the children become familiar with the names of shapes – circle, oval, triangle, rectangle, semi-circle and diamond.

Dinosaur Swamp

To set up a swamp you will need a container, a shallow depth of water, some cuts of wood - small logs, branches, and or large pieces of textured bark, huge handfuls of grass, and some plastic toy dinosaurs. Allow your preschooler to assist you in gathering and setting this up for them. The logs and bark will be a place for the dinosaurs to stand and stomp about, as though they were on islands, little boats or bridges. The grass will feel wonderful in the water and they will enjoy swishing it around, gathering large handfuls of it and piling it into heaps too. Add buckets, shovels, and or nets for more scooping!

Dinosaur Shadow Match Memory Game

This game may be played 2 ways. First, have your child match the shadows cards to the picture cards. Next, mix up the cards and turn them over. Have your child select 2 cards to match. If they match, they keep the cards. If no match, turn the cards back over. Take turns playing with your child until all the cards are matched. Below link is for the printable of this matching game.

Dinosaur Fruit Snack

Cut an apple in half. Add grapes for the "spikes" and cheese pieces for the "head" and "tail" you may put toothpicks into the apple so your preschooler could poke the grapes and cheese onto the apple. Please make sure that you are supervising when working with the toothpicks.

The snack may easily be assembled without the use of the toothpicks by arranging the fruit and cheese on a plate. Yummy!

Letter Review Weekly Activities

We have completed our weekly letters. The remaining weeks of the year will focus on reviewing and reinforcing letter recognition as well as initial sounds. The suggested activities are designed to be practiced throughout the week.

Letter Activities and Alphabet Songs

Letter Cups

Grab a set of plastic/paper cups and letter stickers. You may write the letters on the cups with a marker, too. The pictures are examples of various letter activities you may explore with your preschooler. Too many letters at once, work on a few at a time until you feel as if your child has mastered those letters and beginning sound. Select letters of your child's name. If your child has mastered their first name, start working on last name. Extend this activity with numbers. The possibilities are many....

Rainbow Name

Have your child write their name in pencil. You may need to assist your child. Have your child trace each letter using 1 color of the rainbow for each letter. Repeat with a 2nd, 3rd, etc colors.

Sensory Writing/Play dough/Object Letters

Write your name as well as other letters and numbers in shaving cream, rice, sand, or flour. Any substance will work to give your child that sensory input when writing letters.

Use play dough to form letters. You may write a letter on a piece of paper and have your child roll out play dough to cover the letter. Cover the letter with small objects such as buttons, beads, cereal, or macaroni.

Music/Movement

T Rex Says.....

Play this game as Simon Says... T Rex says stomp like a T Rex -T Rex says chomp like a Stegosaurus, etc. The importance is to make sure your preschooler understand the concept of only moving when you say T Rex says.... This is a great way to practice listening skills as well as simple games with rules.
