These activities promote a variety of developmental skills such as hand and eye coordination, concentration, writing skills, language skills, pre readiness cognitive skills, creativity and imagination and self esteem - a sense of pride and achievement.

The daily suggested activities for your preschooler are listed below. These are all suggestions for you to have in one location; if you find, that you need additional resources for your child. Our key word is Flexible and that is very important when working with young children. If you are in need of other resources, please just contact me.

I will continue to send a morning email each school day with links to this page, Ms. Cosgrove's morning message, and the attendance form.

Please continue to email me your pictures. I love seeing your faces and all the fun you are having while we are apart!

Father's Day Crafts

Start by painting the paper plate to make it look like the moon. Use gray paint and add a few drops of white and black here and there. Once you’re done painting, splatter a few drops of white paint on top of the paper plate. Let dry. Fold yellow construction paper in half and have your preschooler step on it, with the foot close to the folded line. Trace the footprint and cut it out. Make 3 circles from red paper and glue them on top of the footprint. Cut orange and red paper into strips and wrap one end of each strand of paper around a pencil.  Glue the other end of the paper strips under the back flip of the footprint card. Glue the footprint card on top of the paper plate moon. Cut a triangle from red paper and glue it on top of the footprint card, on the paper plate. Cut 2 small orange triangles and glue them at the bottom of the footprint rocket, one on each side. All of the colors may be adjusted to your preschoolers likes as well as your supplies. Use a marker to write "Dad, I love you to the moon and back " inside the rocket. Some may be able to tell their preschoolers the letters to write the message, some may need to dot this message for your preschooler for trace. You may add your child's picture to the rocket, too. Make sure your child signs their name and date it! It is a great memory....

Draw and have your preschooler cut out a circle. Cut out the center of the circle. Decorate the doughnut with "icing" and "sprinkles" - use paint, paper, tissue paper, sticker, anything that you may have on hand. If you use paint, dip your child's thumb to make thumbprint "sprinkles". When completely dry, ask your child their favorite things about their dad. Write some on the doughtnut. Finish by adding your child's picture to the middle.

Dinosaur Egg Drop Count

Gather beads, small dried beans, or small candies to use as mini dinosaur eggs.  Put them on a tray or in a bowl. Find an empty glass jar, bowl or drinking glass to use and put it on the tray.  Using a kid friendly tweezer or small tongs that you have at home.  Squeeze one dinosaur egg at a time and drop it into the jar.  No tweezers - have your preschoolers use the pincer grasp to drop the eggs in the jar. Keep going until all of the dinosaur eggs are in the jar.  Add number cards to the activity to use to pick up that many dinosaur eggs and drop them in the jar.

Letter Review Weekly Activities

We have completed our weekly letters. The remaining weeks of the year will focus on reviewing and reinforcing letter recognition as well as initial sounds. The suggested activities are designed to be practiced throughout the week.

Letter Activities and Alphabet Songs

Letter Cups

Grab a set of plastic/paper cups and letter stickers. You may write the letters on the cups with a marker, too. The pictures are examples of various letter activities you may explore with your preschooler. Too many letters at once, work on a few at a time until you feel as if your child has mastered those letters and beginning sound. Select letters of your child's name. If your child has mastered their first name, start working on last name. Extend this activity with numbers. The possibilities are many....

Rainbow Name

Have your child write their name in pencil. You may need to assist your child. Have your child trace each letter using 1 color of the rainbow for each letter. Repeat with a 2nd, 3rd, etc colors.

Sensory Writing/Play dough/Object Letters

Write your name as well as other letters and numbers in shaving cream, rice, sand, or flour. Any substance will work to give your child that sensory input when writing letters.

Use play dough to form letters. You may write a letter on a piece of paper and have your child roll out play dough to cover the letter. Cover the letter with small objects such as buttons, beads, cereal, or macaroni.

Music/Movement

Hot Lava Jump

Don’t touch the hot lava!  Use whatever you have available as hot lava.  Some ideas include red paper, red streamers, blocks, hand towels, etc.  Spread the hot lava around the floor so it blocks some path to get around the room.  Choose an dinosaur movement or an action and move around the room making sure to avoid the hot lava on the floor by jumping over it! Use our Read Aloud Stomp Dinosaur Stomp for movement ideas
