These activities promote a variety of developmental skills such as hand and eye coordination, concentration, writing skills, language skills, pre readiness cognitive skills, creativity and imagination as well as self esteem - a sense of pride and achievement in your preschooler.

The daily suggested activities for your preschooler are listed below. These are all suggestions for you to have in one location; if you find, that you need additional resources for your child. Our key word is Flexible and that is very important when working with young children. If you are in need of other resources, please just contact me. I will continue to send a morning email each school day with links to this page, Ms. Cosgrove's morning message, and the attendance form.

Please continue to email me your pictures. I love seeing your faces and all the fun you are having while we are apart!

Ice Cream Sunday Craft

Invite children to take a large piece of colored paper and wad it into a ball to form the ice cream scoop. Tell them to place the scoop in the cup. Help them drizzle the “chocolate syrup” (aka tinted glue) onto the scoop. Invite kids to cut “sprinkles” from the paper strips. They can snip small pieces from a couple of different colors. They can sprinkle the paper pieces on the sundaes. Show children how to tear a cotton ball apart to create whipped cream. They can add this to the sundaes.

Finally, they can top each sundae with a “cherry” (aka red pom-pom). Set the sundaes aside to dry.

Puffy Paint Ice Cream Cone

Draw a triangle for the cone from construction paper. Have your child cut out the cone and glue to a larger piece of construction paper. Next, mix up 1 or 2 batches of shaving cream puffy paint by mixing equal parts shaving cream and white glue. You may leave one batch white, and dye the other batch with a few drops of food color.  Then have your child paint their two ice cream scoops. You may even add some real sprinkles while the paint is still wet.

Sprinkle Sensory Bag

Fill a ziploc bag with rainbow sprinkles. Seal the bag with masking tape. Have your child write letters, numbers, shapes on the bag. Your child may use their finger and then move on to using a q tip or blunt pencil in order to encourage the appropriate developmental grip.

Roll and Cover Ice Cream Cones

The above pictures are 2 examples of a Roll and Cover Game. Use a die or dice, depending on your child, the game encourages your child to practice their counting/matching skills. A simple way to play this is to write numbers 1-6, 1-12 or the dots. Roll the die and start counting... Add in another player to encourage waiting and turn taking skills, too!

Ice Cream Snacks

Waffle Ice Cream– Cut a waffle into a cone shape. Use a can of whipped cream to make a large dollop on top for ice cream. Dip the waffle into the whipped cream and enjoy!

Ice Cream Cookie Sandwich – Scoop vanilla ice cream onto one graham cracker.  Place another graham cracker on top and squish together. Roll the sides in sprinkles.

Please allow your child to prep these yummy snacks as it is great fine motor skill practice!

Letter Review Weekly Activities

We have completed our weekly letters. The remaining weeks of the year will focus on reviewing and reinforcing letter recognition as well as initial sounds. The suggested activities are designed to be practiced throughout the week.

Letter Activities and Alphabet Songs

Letter Cups

Grab a set of plastic/paper cups and letter stickers. You may write the letters on the cups with a marker, too. The pictures are examples of various letter activities you may explore with your preschooler. Too many letters at once, work on a few at a time until you feel as if your child has mastered those letters and beginning sound. Select letters of your child's name. If your child has mastered their first name, start working on last name. Extend this activity with numbers. The possibilities are many....

Rainbow Name

Have your child write their name in pencil. You may need to assist your child. Have your child trace each letter using 1 color of the rainbow for each letter. Repeat with a 2nd, 3rd, etc colors.

Sensory Writing/Play dough/Object Letters

Write your name as well as other letters and numbers in shaving cream, rice, sand, or flour. Any substance will work to give your child that sensory input when writing letters.

Use play dough to form letters. You may write a letter on a piece of paper and have your child roll out play dough to cover the letter. Cover the letter with small objects such as buttons, beads, cereal, or macaroni.

Music/Movement

Ice Cream Cone Relay

For this game set up 2 bins on either side of the yard or room. On one end I filled the bin with ball pit ball “ice cream scoops”- balls and "ice cream cones" - tubes.  Then have your child try to balance each ball on a cone and carry it to the other bin. You can encourage them to go move faster as they master the ability to balance the "ice cream cones" while moving across to the other bin. Great activity for inside or outside
