Happy Cinco De Mayo! Thank you for all the great pictures and videos from all of you. It is great seeing your faces and all the fun activities that you are doing.
Please note it is important to keep in mind your child's IEP goals. These skills may be addressed through the provided activities as well as the very natural everyday interactions such as daily routines and play. Play with your child as play is a child's work. All areas of development - cognitive, social/emotional, motor, and speech/language skills are achieved through everyday activities including play. It is through play that your child learns, grows, and will retain new skills and information.
These are all suggestions for you to have in one location; if you find, that you need additional resources for your child. Our key word is Flexible and that is very important when working with young children. If you are in need of other resources, please just contact me. I will continue to send a morning email each school day with links to this page, Ms. Cosgrove's morning message, and the attendance form.
Please continue to email me your pictures. I love seeing your faces!

Z is for Zebra Craft

Trace/Cut a large Z shape or write it. Have your child cut out strips of black paper - glue or paint stripes. Add eye, snout, yarn or strips of black paper for the mane, and an ear.
Cow Craft

Have your child paint a paper tube white. Sponge paint black spots. Trace ears, feet and snout. Have your child cut out. Glue to tube. Draw facial features. No paint - no problem. Use white paper to cover the paper tube. Add details with markers/crayons.
Farm Sensory Activity

A farm sensory table filled with corn kernels or oats is a great start for pretend play. Fill a small container with corn kernels/oats, adding some small toy farm animals, small pom poms (your child can pretend they are veggies), a few small scoops, tiny blocks and of course a few toy tractors or trucks for some fun sensory pretend play. Your child can make a farm, pretend to be the farmer or one of the animals, or scoop the corn.
Homemade Butter

Fill a small jar or container half-way with cream. Secure the lids and wrap them in paper towels in case of leaking. Have your child shake it vigorously. It takes about 10 minutes for the butter to congeal into a little ball (there will also be a separated liquid called whey). You may want to have the children shake while they dance and then as they listen to a story. Some may need to continue shaking throughout the day or at home. This butter making activity are great for building science knowledge, and it promotes large and fine motor skills as your child creates their very own butter. The below link is a tour of a dairy farm.
Alphabet Soup

Say the rhyme “Stir the soup it makes it better, now use the ladle to get a letter!” as your child stirs the soup and scoops out a magnetic letter using the ladle. When your child gets a letter from the pot, have him label the letter. If you have upper and lowercase letters, have your child match. Have your child find the letters in their name and have him/her spell out their name. Have your child say the letter's sound and say a word that begins with that letter. Our alphabet songs below are a great way to reinforce letter sounds.
Pipe Cleaner Shapes

Draw dotted line shapes such as circle, triangle, rectangle, etc. Have your child cover the dotted lines with pipe cleaners. No pipe cleaners - use yarn or string. You may even have your child cover with small items such as beads, cereal, or small macaroni. Have your child identify each shape. To complete the activity, have your child trace over each dotted line shape.

Letter Zz and alphabet songs
Letter Zz - Mystery Box
Find and place 5-7 items/pictures that begin with the letter Zz. Have your child label each item/picture - talk about the item/picture - place items/pictures in box. Have your child recall the items that have been placed into the box. Repeat this activity daily with your child. Some items/pictures will be recalled easily - others may require a clue. Make this into a game with your child. This is an activity that we do during our circle time and was enjoyed by all.
Sensory Writing
Write letter Zz as well as other letters and numbers in shaving cream, rice, sand, or flour. Any substance will work to give your child that sensory input when writing letters.
Letter Zz Scavenger Hunt
Have your child search for items that begin with letter Zz. Have your child name/label each item emphasizing the beginning sound of Zz.
Music/Movement
Bowling

Place numbered bottles, plastic cups, or paper tubes at a distance. Have your child throw or kick a soft ball at the "pins". Have your child count how pins are knocked down. Have your child set up the knocked over pins to repeat play.
