Friends - Treat you moms extra special this weekend!
Moms - Have a wonderful Mother's Day!
Everyone enjoy the weekend.....
Please note it is important to keep in mind your child's IEP goals. These skills may be addressed through the provided activities as well as the very natural everyday interactions such as daily routines and play. Play with your child as play is a child's work. All areas of development - cognitive, social/emotional, motor, and speech/language skills are achieved through everyday activities including play. It is through play that your child learns, grows, and will retain new skills and information.
These are all suggestions for you to have in one location; if you find, that you need additional resources for your child. Our key word is Flexible and that is very important when working with young children. If you are in need of other resources, please just contact me. I will continue to send a morning email each school day with links to this page, Ms. Cosgrove's morning message, and attendance form.
Please continue to email me your pictures. I love seeing your faces!

Ssshhhhh! Mother's Day Crafts

Suggestion - do only one handprint to use as the front of a card. Start by painting your child's hand green and pressing them down on paper. After they wash their hand they dip a finger in yellow paint and finger painted a small yellow circle above each finger on the handprint. The next step was to choose the colors they wanted to use for the flowers and finger paint small circles around the yellow circles. Cut out flower pot from brown construction paper and glued it on just below the handprint. On the flower pot have your child trace/write Happy Mother's Day 2020 and their name.

Trace each family members' hand. Have your child cut out their hand - will probably need hand over hand assistance. Write name of each family member on thumb-have your child write their name. Some may need hand over hand assistance for cutting and writing. Glue onto paper. Instead of "Lockdown" - "Mother's Day"
Having these tiny handprints to reflect on later on continues to be my most treasured gifts from my children as a mom.
Animal Habitat Sorting

Set up two containers - On The Farm and Not on the Farm. Then grab a bunch of animals - plastic, stuffed or pictures - and place them in a pile in the middle of the containers. Have you child name each animal. Ask if the animal is found on a farm. Sort accordingly. Continue activity by asking your child to identify where the animal may live if not on a farm, counting animals, describing each animals color, sound, etc.
Farm Snack

Use mini bagels, bread, rice cakes, or crackers. Have your child spread jelly or cream cheese onto the base. Add strawberries, raisins or chocolate chips, bananas or cheese to make the animal face. I am sure that you can recreate farm animals with any foods you may have on hand. Please speak to your child about the process of creating their snack encouraging them to express themselves while working on the task. Extend the activity by having your child count and name the foods used, point out shapes, sizes, etc. Please send me your pictures as I would love to see your yummy snacks!
Technology
Enjoy exploring various websites to reinforce skills. Please reach out if you need assistance logging into your child's accounts. Please remember IXL can be reached through Roxbury Classlink using your child's email account.
IXL
happynumbers.com - passwords were emailed earlier in the week. It is only the number that was sent along with your child's name.
Letter Zz Weekly Activities
Letter Zz and alphabet songs
Letter Zz - Mystery Box
Find and place 5-7 items/pictures that begin with the letter Zz. Have your child label each item/picture - talk about the item/picture - place items/pictures in box. Have your child recall the items that have been placed into the box. Repeat this activity daily with your child. Some items/pictures will be recalled easily - others may require a clue. Make this into a game with your child. This is an activity that we do during our circle time and was enjoyed by all.
Sensory Writing
Write letter Zz as well as other letters and numbers in shaving cream, rice, sand, or flour. Any substance will work to give your child that sensory input when writing letters.
Letter Zz Scavenger Hunt
Have your child search for items that begin with letter Zz. Have your child name/label each item emphasizing the beginning sound of Zz.
Music/Movement
Gross Motor Play
Select any of this week's or other gross motor activities that your child enjoys to repeat. Enjoy the weekend sunshine and get outside!
